ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUES Nederland

WHAT IS ART®

Active Release Techniques (ART®) is a patented hands-on treatment technique developed in the USA which has shown very quick results in treating issues with muscles, fascia, ligaments, tendons and nerve entrapment (all together also known as soft tissue). The effective results of Active Release Techniques have been immediately noticed and appreciated in the sports field since injured athletes and players return to their previous level sooner than expected.

But Active Release Techniques can definitively benefit everybody!

The GOLD standard

Also known as the Gold Standard in soft tissue healthcare, Active Release Techniques consists of hundreds of treatment protocols which cover over 500 specific moves. These protocols are unique to Active Release Techniques. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient.

WHAT DOES IT TREAT

Active Release Techniques treats problems with soft tissue in the whole body including some of the more commonly experienced problems such as:

• Headaches

• Neck pain

• Back pain

• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

• Shin splints

• Shoulder pain

• Sciatica

• Plantar fasciitis

• Knee problems

• Tennis elbow

These are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with Active Release Techniques. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

HOW DO OVERUSE ISSUES OCCUR

HOW DO OVERUSE CONDITIONS OCCUR

The structure of over-used muscles (and other soft tissue) change as a result of:

• Acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc.)

• Accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)

• Not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness and weakness. Active Release Techniques is specialized in locating these adhesions and resolving them quickly using patented manual protocols.

WHAT IS AN ACTIVE RELEASE TREATMENT LIKE?

Every Active Release session is a combination of examination and treatment. The Active Release provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves (and the relationship of moving tissues to one another). Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements to actively release the tissues.
